Hey Neighbor passed its own mark in Colorado Springs, The Gazette reported. The drive was called 150 Tables Across COS, lined up with Colorado's 150th year. Residents signed up to host 155 neighborhood tables, five past the goal of 150.

Nearly all of the hosts said they would do it again. The count is tables people agreed to hold, a neighbor-to-neighbor project, not a claim that every street in the city took part.

For the classroom

In Colorado Springs, a group called Hey Neighbor asked people to host tables in their own neighborhoods. The goal was 150 tables, one for each year of Colorado's 150th birthday. Residents signed up for 155 tables, five more than the goal. A neighborhood table is a simple gathering, people from nearby houses sitting down together. Afterward, nearly all of the hosts said they would host again. The number is the tables people offered, not a promise that every block in the city had one. The idea was neighbors meeting neighbors, on purpose, close to home.

  1. What could you put on a table so neighbors would want to stop and talk?
  2. Why might it matter that the tables were in neighborhoods, not in one big park?
  3. Who on your street might like an invitation to sit down together?
