On Sunday, Oct. 25, crews from both sides of Putnam County helped a hiker with a dislocated hip on the Appalachian Trail inside Fahnestock State Park in Kent, Mid-Hudson News reported. Kent firefighters got there first and asked for more help. The Cold Spring Fire Department's Mountain Rescue Team came, along with a Putnam paramedic, Kent Community Ambulance, and the Philipstown Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Kent Fire Chief Brennon Frowd said the responders checked the hiker's injuries and secured the person in a rescue litter. The spot was a narrow, rocky piece of trail, so the agencies had to coordinate the carry. Frowd said the hiker left the woods without any further injury, and none of the rescuers was hurt.

Putnam Commissioner of Emergency Services James Oster asked hikers to wear suitable shoes and clothes and to watch the trail. He said wet, slippery, uneven ground can be hazardous even for an experienced hiker, and he told people to stay within their limits.
