A giant Asian pond turtle and a pangolin are back in the forest at My Son because people who found them turned them in. DTiNews reported on October 27, 2026, that heritage staff, officials from Dai Loc commune, and forest rangers released the pair into the protected forest that day. The turtle weighed about 4 kilograms. Health checks found both animals fit for the wild.

The My Son World Cultural Heritage Management Board said residents had suspected the animals were rare and contacted the authorities. Since June, the office has taken in six wild animals from local agencies for release, including reticulated pythons, Burmese pythons, elongated tortoises, and striped-necked turtles. The protected landscape covers more than 1,160 hectares.

This release is two animals, plus a short list of others handed over since June. It is not a population estimate for the forest.
