A hiker who fell on the Glen Ellis Falls Trail made it back to the parking lot with search-and-rescue volunteers and conservation officers. News Center Maine, citing the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, reported that officers were notified around 5:45 p.m. on October 21, 2026. The caller said a 43-year-old woman had fallen on rocky steps and was hurt badly enough that she could not walk out on her own.
The hiker was Leva Lase, 43, of Gauja, Latvia. She had been going down to see the falls with her husband when she fell. Conservation officers and volunteers from Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue responded. A paramedic with that rescue group reached her first and checked her. More rescuers hiked in with a litter. She was able to walk back up the trail with help instead.
Lase and the crew reached the parking lot around 7:05 p.m. Emergency medical personnel from Gorham Ambulance assessed her there. She declined the ambulance and chose to get medical care on her own. Fish and Game said the rescue was paid for through the state's Hike Safe Card program and Search and Rescue Fund, rather than through hunting, fishing, or trapping license fees. The report is that walk out. It does not describe the injury beyond the fact that she could not leave the trail alone at first.
