Ariana Leonardis had finished the CPR portion of class on Thursday in the Human Development and Child Care program at Ocean County Vocational Technical School's Brick Center, NJ 101.5 reported. On Saturday night she was walking with her cousin in Tuckerton when a man yelled for help. A language barrier slowed the first seconds. Her cousin called 911. A woman told Leonardis the baby was not breathing, and Leonardis asked permission before she started CPR.

She said she got the three-week-old breathing again, and police and EMS arrived soon after and thanked her. Her instructor, Michelle Keenan, learned what had happened when the class returned for first aid and called Leonardis calm and brave. CPR and first aid are required at the school for students working toward a Child Development Associate credential.
