International Day of Persons with Disabilities

December 3 is the United Nations day for including people with disabilities.

The next date is December 3, 2026. Dates follow Mountain Time, America/Denver. Stories below are from the archive.

How to take part

Free and safe. No fee, no student email, and no trip taken alone.

  • Hold a door and give people time. Do not grab a wheelchair or a cane unless someone asks.
  • Read an archive story about a playground, a trail, or a classroom that made room.
  • If you suggest a fix at school, tell a teacher. Do not block a ramp or a path to make a point.

For classrooms

A short prompt for a teacher to use with children. This page is for adults.

Look at one real place in school, such as a door, a desk, or a playground, and ask whether more people could use it. Do not ask anyone to name a disability.

More stories a teacher can read aloud are in the Kids section.
