Kindness Challenge

Kindness challenge: Oct 5 to 11, 2026.

Write a thank-you note to someone who helps your school, such as a custodian, a bus driver, or a lunch helper.

Kendall County 4-H members packed notes with snacks for crews at the grain elevators. A thank-you note tells someone their work matters, and it does not cost anything.

Three easy ways

At school

Students write the note in class. The teacher hands the stack to a custodian, bus driver, or lunch helper the class already knows.

At home

Write a note to someone in your home who does a job the family counts on, and leave it where they will find it.

In the neighborhood

With a grown-up you live with, leave a thank-you at a library desk your family already uses. Stay with that grown-up.

4-H kids deliver harvest thank-yous to grain elevator crews

Kendall County 4-H members packed bags with water, snacks, baked goods, and a note, then handed them to people working the grain elevators.

Teacher note

Five quiet minutes is enough for the note. Read the linked story aloud before the class starts. Deliver anything the class made yourself, and do not send children off alone. Do not collect a child's name, age, school, or email.

This page is for an adult to lead. The classroom section has more stories to read aloud.

The share text does not give away the story.

This week's kindness challenge is a thank-you note for someone who helps at your school. It is free, and a teacher can deliver the notes.
