The National Center for Healthy Veterans opened a new tiny home and a learning center at Valor Farm in Altavista. Leaders said the aim is larger than a place to sleep. The center offers group discussion classes and therapy for veterans working through trauma and the shift to civilian life. President Robert F. Dees said the classes are there so people can get back on track.
Local Homes for Heroes affiliates who came to the opening said a stable house matters alongside care for the mental side of military service. The center hopes to add more tiny homes. What opened is one home and a learning center, not a finished campus.
