Bastrop County Animal Services removed 41 dogs and one cat from a home where most of the dogs, short-faced breeds, were living in unsanitary conditions. The county gave them initial care and brought them to the Austin Humane Society. The society said the caregiver had more animals than they could manage.
Each animal is getting an intake exam, vaccines, and any further treatment the medical team finds necessary. Some arrived in rough condition and may need surgery. Every animal will be spayed or neutered before it can be adopted. Care for the 42 animals is expected to cost the society more than $15,000, and it is asking for donations.
