The reporting lives at Bar Harbor Story. Our summary is checked against it, and we link it on every story.

When Conners Emerson School closed for two weeks so staff could move into a new building, Bar Harbor's nonprofits filled the days, the Bar Harbor Story reported on November 7, 2026. The closure ran the school weeks of October 26 through November 6. Partners included the MDI YMCA, the Jesup Memorial Library, Camp Beech Cliff, the YWCA of Mount Desert Island, ArtWaves, the Summer Festival of the Arts, and Reel Pizza.

Youth librarian Abby Morrow said the Jesup and the Y shared one camp: children were at the Y from 8 to 10 a.m. and at the library from 10 to 3 on weekdays. At the library they built a play with theater teacher Andrew Simon and performed it at the end of each week. The library also hosted a movie afternoon at Reel Pizza, a puppet visit, and an animal program. Morrow said the expanded library could hold more than 40 children for camp. Classes resume Monday, November 9. The account is about those two weeks of programming, not a review of the new school itself.

For the classroom

Conners Emerson School in Bar Harbor, Maine, closed from October 26 through November 6 so staff could move into a new building. In one camp, children spent the morning at the Y and the afternoon at the library putting on plays. The library could host more than 40 children. School starts again November 9. The story is those two weeks, not a grade for the new building.
