Police in Cartagena released 42 wild animals with the city's environmental authority, the regional agency Cardique, and Fundación LORO. Caracol Radio reported the release on October 20, 2026.
The group included five howler monkeys, 12 canaries, six cotorras, four parakeets, two boas, one snake the report called a boa chocolate, two babillas, and one armadillo. The same release also included a mochuelo, two pirras, a seedeater, an azulejo, a turpial, a tumbayegua, a mockingbird, and a loro péndola. Lieutenant María del Mar Cardozo said the same partnership has helped return more than 1,500 wild animals in Cartagena and its metro area so far in 2026.
The figure is animals that went back out. It is not a claim that the trade which takes them from the forest has ended.
