On the ride home from Viola Gibson Elementary in Cedar Rapids, bus driver Christine Houston said a strong cologne smell set off a coughing fit that kept getting worse, KCTV5 reported. After two or three more stops she knew she could not keep driving.

Fifth grader Bella Scott saw Houston wheezing and called her father, Nick Scott. He was nearby and at first thought she wanted more phone time, until he heard how frightened she was. He got on the bus, called 911, and helped the students phone their families and stay calm. Houston says Bella will always be her hero.
