John Conway farms 300 acres of corn and soybeans in Washington County, Iowa, a harvest that usually takes him six weeks. A fall from a ladder, on his way to fix a leak in the corn dryer, put him in the hospital for seven days and left him unable to do that work, KCRG reported.

On Friday, about 60 neighbors and other farmers cut the whole crop in one day. Neighbor Shirley Bohr said people brought food and help, and that the neighborhood is fortunate. Everyone who came signed a large board so Conway can remember who showed up. He told the station that people you have known your whole life become family, and that they are willing to help each other. He also said the hard part, for a farmer in harvest season, is being told not to overdo it.
