The Rotary Club of Sun Lakes is in the middle of a project it has repeated for 23 years. AZ Family reported on October 7, 2026, that the club of about 100 members is handing out roughly 4,000 dictionaries to third graders in the Chandler Unified School District and the Gila River Indian Community. Over those years the club has given out about 100,000 dictionaries.

The district wants the share of students meeting English language arts goals to rise from 53 percent to 58 percent. The latest published statewide figure is lower: 36 percent of Arizona third graders scored proficient or higher in reading. The dictionaries are a classroom tool. They are not evidence that those scores have already moved.
