The reporting lives at WCHS. Our summary is checked against it, and we link it on every story.

Fire departments from across Fayette County finished a technical rope rescue at Kanawha Falls after a man became trapped in the river, WCHS reported. First responders said he had minor injuries and moderate hypothermia after a long time in the cold.

WCHS cited a social media post from the Ansted Fire Department. The station's article spelled that department Anstead. The post credited crews from Armstrong Creek, Boomer, Fayetteville, Gauley Bridge, Gauley River, Montgomery, Oak Hill, and Pax with hauling the man to safety. Firefighters worked above a narrow crevice, where uneven ground and fast-moving water made the rescue harder.

The post said a rescue like this is the work of county firefighters who train together, and that a technical rescue counts when everyone gets home safely.
