Nearly 100 high school robotics students from nine Kansas City-area schools spent a Saturday morning adapting toy cars for toddlers who cannot get around the way their siblings can. KMBC reported on Oct. 11 that Variety KC's Go Baby Go build, led by Barstow School's FRC Team 1939, turned out seven modified ride-on cars. Variety KC supplied the cars.
The point, Barstow robotics coach Bree Pusey told the station, is to design with other people in mind. A parent at the build said a car gives her child a way to move and play alongside siblings. Each car was fitted to a particular child rather than built from one template.
