Loudoun County Fire and Rescue spent Friday rappelling down Inova Loudoun Hospital in costume so children inside could see a superhero at the window, WJLA reported. Crews dressed as Captain America, Mario, Luigi, Stitch, Mr. Incredible, and Spider-Man, waving as they came down the building.
Lieutenant Jason Ilowite, who went as Luigi, said the descent doubled as rope training and, more importantly, as a better day for kids who are in the hospital. Through the glass they played tic-tac-toe and bingo and blew bubbles. Ilowite said the plan was to keep visiting with patients on the way down, not only to pass the windows once.
