KNX News named LAPD Officers Joseph Murphy and Yevgeny Shipley its Heroes of the Week on October 9, 2026. They were on patrol in downtown Los Angeles when a crowd gathered near a car and someone shouted that a person was underneath. Murphy told the station the car had run over the man and dragged him a short distance. He was wedged under the vehicle and was not answering when the officers called to him.

Murphy and Shipley asked the witnesses to help lift. Murphy said at least six or eight people raised the car together, even though some worried it would fall back down. They got the man out. He was badly hurt, and he survived. Murphy said the officers could not have done it without the people who stopped.
