Second Chance Animal Rescue in Norman has a new building and is taking animals in again. News 9 reported on October 2, 2026, that the shelter would hold a public grand reopening that Saturday, from 1 to 4 p.m., at 4500 24th Ave. NW, with vendors, a children's area, a silent auction, raffles, and food.
The group, which first opened in 1989, had been closed since 2024. Shelter director Michelle Karolicki said the old building was torn down and replaced. The new shelter has new kennels and space for spay and neuter surgery on site, along with more complicated procedures. Puppies, cats, and kittens were already in the kennels when the station visited, waiting on adopters.
