The reporting lives at CBS12. Our summary is checked against it, and we link it on every story.

Just before 10:30 a.m. on November 2, a van in Port St. Lucie met fast-rising floodwater during heavy rain, CBS12 reported. The driver tried to turn. The water carried the van into a canal, and both people were still inside as it began to sink.

Port St. Lucie police said Officer Peterson arrived about 100 seconds after being dispatched and joined the rescue right away. One of the two people had a disability and needed help getting out of the van. St. Lucie County Fire District crews worked the rescue with the officer. Police said both people were brought out and are doing well. The department credited the teamwork between its officers and the fire district. The report does not give the occupants' names.
