Seniors gathered at Rabie Ridge Library on October 12 for a heart-health session during Stroke Awareness Month. The City of Johannesburg published the account on October 13, 2026.
Library and Information Services held the afternoon with the Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa. Registered dietitian Shonisani Nephalama led it. The group covered types of stroke, the FAST warning signs, prevention, and healthy eating. One participant said she felt less afraid and would tell her family what she had learned. Senior librarian Khalo Ronald said libraries do more than lend books, and that older residents can be short of health information.
The session was one afternoon in one library. It does not measure how many strokes were prevented.
