Monarch Mountain, about 20 miles west of Salida, is launching Salida School Days for the 2026-27 season. Unofficial Networks reported on October 9, 2026, that the first year of the program will give about 1,300 students in the Salida School District a free day of skiing or snowboarding by covering mountain access. Dates have not been announced, and the resort has not said whether rentals or lessons are included with that free day.
The mountain is also adding half-day beginner ski and snowboard lessons for $49, open to anyone age 7 or older at ability levels 1 through 3. That price is for the group lesson. Lift tickets and equipment rentals are separate. Monarch has operated since 1939 on natural snow, and it opened a 377-acre expansion called No Name Basin during the 2025-26 season.
