Floodwater in Oak Creek Canyon on Sunday left Alexander Dale, his wife, and their guests at a property they manage next to the creek, Arizona's Family reported. Dale said they had nowhere to go. They climbed onto the roof with about nine guests and waited about three hours while the canyon flooded and people nearby had to leave their homes.

A helicopter arrived with a long line. Dale said the crew did not have a harness for the family's dog, and that he and his wife were not going to leave the dog. They buckled together harnesses they already had at the house. Dale was lifted while holding the dog, sitting in his own harness and hoping the dog would stay with him.
