Dr. Lisa Coder, a Sioux Falls veterinarian, started the nonprofit Feed Sioux Falls last November because she was worried about families in her practice and around town not having enough to eat, Dakota News Now reported. Every Saturday at Heritage Park, donated goods go to people who need them. It began with a few people handing out coffee, then granola bars, then sandwiches.
Her 10-year-old son pushed her to treat people in line with more dignity. The table grew to include toiletries, shampoo, razors, bags, and food. Coder owns her clinic and still spends evenings with her kids splitting large bottles into smaller ones. She said the lines have gotten longer, and that she would rather show up one Saturday and find nobody waiting.
