On October 10, more than 125 children spent a free day at the Plow & Pulse Foundation farm in St. Martinville, planting vegetables instead of sitting with screens. In the community garden they learned to put in carrots, turnips, potatoes, lettuce, and celery. Each child left with a cabbage started in a bucket. St. Martinville Junior High teacher Jawana Rochelle and veterinarian Dr. Treyton Diggs talked with them about soil, animal health, and careers in agriculture. The day also included hayrides, farm animals, and a pond.
The foundation's first event drew 25 children. Founder Dr. Steve Morgan Jr. said this one was the largest yet, and that parents could see a purpose past entertainment. He wants the farm to grow into a year-round place to learn about food, science, and giving away what you grow.
