The reporting lives at FOX61. Our summary is checked against it, and we link it on every story.

Just before 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Torrington firefighters were sent to a house on Park Avenue for a porch fire, FOX61 reported. Flames were already climbing the outside of the two-story home and had reached the second floor. Battalion Chief Robert Shopey called a second alarm for more crews. The first report said the house was empty. Shopey then heard banging and people calling for help from inside.

Firefighters went in while smoke was heavy and the fire was still moving. They brought four people out from the first floor. Two of them came through a window. All four were taken to a hospital to be checked and treated. The department did not describe their injuries. Crews also got five cats out and turned them over to animal control. After the fire was out, another search found that everyone was accounted for. The fire marshal is looking into how the fire started.
