Kansas veterans received a welcome home in Wichita on Wednesday after the 109th Kansas Honor Flight, KWCH reported. The trips give veterans from around the state an all-expenses-paid visit to Washington, D.C., to see the monuments built for their service. This flight was the last one of the year.

Herb Duncan has volunteered with Kansas Honor Flight for several years. He told the station his own trip, 18 years ago, is still with him, especially the welcome at the end of the terminal, when his family reached him with handshakes and hugs. Two flights are already booked for 2027, and the group hopes to add two more. It is asking Kansas veterans to sign up. More than 5,000 veterans have flown with Kansas Honor Flight. A welcome at the airport does not replace the years before it. It is the greeting this group raises money to give.
