The Frederick News-Post reported on October 16, 2026, that the Veteran Services Center at Goodwill had hosted the first Capital Region Honor Flight to leave from Frederick. Veterans and the guardians who traveled with them made the trip at no charge, paid for by community donations.
The group visited the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Navy Memorial, the Air Force Memorial, the Marine Corps War Memorial, and Arlington National Cemetery. At Arlington, James Hampson, Bob Weiss, Larry Hill, and Darrell Sowers placed a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier during the changing of the guard. The Air Force Honor Guard Drill Team also performed at the Air Force Memorial.
The paper named Korean War veteran Maurice Roy and 24 Vietnam War veterans as the people who went. This is the Frederick departure the News-Post described. It is not a count of every Maryland veteran still waiting for a seat.
