Just after 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, the Keyport Fire Department was called to Raritan Bay for a man keeping himself above the water, Patch reported. Squad Co. 22 found him about 40 yards from the end of the boat-ramp dock, holding a piling, with his head clear of the water. He was exhausted and having a medical episode. The department did not release his name.
A woman who was not named brought her boat to the dock so Keyport police officers and firefighters could board and go out to him. Keyport firefighter and rescue swimmer Susser then entered the water. The crew got the man onto the boat and back to shore, where emergency medical services took over his care and the ride onward.
The fire department thanked Keyport police, the First Aid Squad, and Monmouth County Communications for help on the call. It did not name the woman who brought the boat.
