Just after 7 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 came to rest on top of a 2019 Ford Escape at Highway 52 and Highway 72 in New Plymouth, the Idaho Press reported from a Payette County Sheriff's Office release. A 35-year-old woman was trapped in the Escape. Payette County Dispatch took the call at 7:01 a.m. Paramedics, the New Plymouth, Sand Hollow, and Payette fire departments, and the sheriff's office responded.
New Plymouth and Sand Hollow firefighters saw an Orizabas Crane Service crane from Emmett passing the other way. They asked Deputy Travis Downey to catch it and ask for help. The crane crew came back and lifted the pickup off the car. A nurse who had stopped kept the driver's head and neck steady until paramedics could take over. Sheriff Andy Creech said he believes that quick help saved her life. She had minor injuries, went to a hospital to be checked, and was expected to be okay. The people in the pickup were not injured. Creech said the crash report was not finished, so the office could not yet say how the truck ended up on the car.
