Bobby Silva, a 26-year-old laborer from Waterford, was in a safety boat under the Gold Star Memorial Bridge on June 27 when a 5-week-old kitten fell about 120 feet into the Thames. NBC Connecticut reported that he scooped her out of the water. A veterinary check found no broken bones. She did have a bruised lung. On July 19 he adopted her and named her Molly.
It was his first animal rescue. New London Animal Control had put out the call, and Silva was among the people who answered it. He said he had expected a frightened cat and instead got one that wants to be held. Molly lives with him now.
